Right in the heart of Miami, the latest project by STUDIO AD, in collaboration with FictionWorks, is a tribute to Jamaican culture and gastronomy. This new restaurant space honours Jamaica's culinary traditions and cultural richness.
Inspired by the Jamaican culture and style of the 60s and 70s, the new restaurant and lounge in downtown Miami reflects a unique concept and design that brings out the distinctive Jamaican landscapes, vibrant colours and handicrafts of the Caribbean island.
“The innovative interior design of JRK! and Mangrove combines two distinct projects into a single multifunctional space”, explain Andreas de Camps and Olivia King, co-founders of FictionWorks. Emphasising natural light, the Jamaican restaurant JRK! has a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The food on offer has been meticulously thought out and designed to honour Jamaican culinary traditions.
For Mangrove, the designers opted for a more intimate environment with a darker aesthetic. Inspired by the speakeasy style, the bar features luxurious decor with vintage pieces, local art and plenty vegetation. The space also includes a DJ booth with vinyl records - the perfect setting for enjoying a good cocktail.
With a green leather sofa, the dining area is decorated with a concrete wall and Jamaican-inspired artwork by Nick Mahshie. The bar, with an aged zinc worktop and red vinyl stools, enhances the retro style intended for this space.
Cleverly, the design duo managed to incorporate the colours of JRK! (yellow and green) into the overall aesthetic of the space. Together with a few touches of orange, these tones create a fun and welcoming ambience, improving the customer experience. At the same time, the interior is rich in more aged and raw materials, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
With contrasting atmospheres, carefully thought out, the restaurant adapts to different tastes and moods, ensuring a dynamic experience throughout the day and night.
