Inspired by the architecture of the northern Gulf – where both privacy and protection shape spaces of contemplation and refuge – White Fortress is like an ode to design that simultaneously welcomes and challenges us. Protected by thick, austere walls that shield against hot weather and dry winds, the house has the power to embrace those who arrive with an unanticipated serenity, where every element tells a story of contrasts and balance.
The heart of this residence can be found in its carefully laid out walled courtyards. Each patio, far from being a mere transitional space, plays a unique and purposeful role: welcoming those who arrive, inviting people to rest or bringing people together to celebrate.
These courtyards also add a dynamism to the overall composition, by creating microcosms within the larger space. At the centre of the complex, a green ‘oasis’ discreetly but effectively partitions off the service areas from the social and private spaces.
