Whoever arrives at São Lourenço do Douro and approaches the river is bound to be taken aback by an enchanting sight, the ideal starting point for idyllic daydreams. Nestling between the terraces and the trees, this estate presents an exuberant piece of history.

This is one of the few properties in the region with direct access to the river, stretching along its banks for almost a kilometre. A thousand metres of peace announcing itself as a promise of freedom.In this early 18th-century manor house, memories are engraved in every nook and cranny. This is where several families have lived, who tilled the land year in and year out to produce vinho verde. Today, a bountiful and refreshing lemon orchard grows in the former vineyard.
Just like many others, this project was handed to L’Éléphant interiors on the recommendation of a former client. The object of the assignment was unusual, complex and maze-like, a house with its very particular characteristics and clearly divided spaces. The building complex consists of the main manor house, a chapel, a wine cellar and several small houses that evoke the history of a prosperous agricultural property. The central floor comprises the entrance hall, two living rooms, a library, two dining rooms, a pantry, five bedrooms and an extraordinary kitchen that embraces two periods: a classical and a contemporary one. The great challenge was to remodel the whole ensemble in detail without detracting from its memories.
