Among the peaceful slopes surrounding Lugu Lake in Yunnan, Songmoon reveals itself as a haven where architecture, nature and memory come together in perfect harmony. This is a place that doesn't force itself onto the landscape, but rather grows out of it.
Designed by Yi Ping, founder of the YID studio, the project springs from an intimate relationship with the territory and a personal story: that of the owner, Qi Qi, and her father, whose connection to the land was crucial to making this refuge possible. Here, architecture, interiors and landscape are conceived as a single organism – that is alive and changeable – inviting guests to slow down and be contemplative.

It is developed in two complementary nuclei: the Bookhouse, which stands on the hilltop offering a space for reading and absolute silence, and the Homestay, integrated into the foot of the mountain, where guests find shelter and a sense of oneness with the landscape. Both volumes were designed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior, allowing light, the lake and vegetation to become part of the experience. The rooms open out towards the mountain, the verandas are the setting for little daily rituals – a hot cup of tea, a quiet conversation, the simple act of observing.
The materiality of the project reinforces this connection to the place. Stone sourced from the mountain itself, reused wood and hand-applied materials give the spaces an authenticity marked by time and imperfection, where each element carries a story.

Nothing is excessive, nothing is ornamental. The interiors lead us through a restrained palette of natural textures and carefully filtered light that creates serene and welcoming atmospheres.
