The invitation came from the Brazilian Furniture project whose aim is to promote the internationalisation of the sector.
It was with the first rays of sun, at daybreak that we landed in São Paulo: our host city for the coming six days, packed with events and visits that would plunge us into the best of Brazilian design.

The invitation came from the Brazilian Furniture project – a partnership between Abimóvel (Brazilian Furniture Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – whose aim is to promote the internationalisation of the sector. This brought together a community of journalists, curious to learn more about what – in loco – turned out to be a robust furniture and design industry, with Brazil being the world’s 6th largest producer of furniture.

For decades, Brazil’s furniture sector has been essential- ly focused on the domestic market (with its colossal 210 mil- lion inhabitants), but now the country shows an increasing commitment to its overseas expansion. With an annual 31% growth in exports (the USA being the main destination), Europe belongs to the group of emerging markets, and the presence of Brazilian companies in the famous Milan Furniture Fair is considerable.
