Right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, a lounge bar bearing the name of a flower has emerged. Dhalia is the new intimate space at the Proper Downtown L.A. hotel.
The building, originally built in the 1920s, was reopened in October 2021 and has since become an important venue in the centre of this Californian city, bolstering the work of local artists with an active cultural programme.
To emphasise this spirit, the Dahlia presents itself as a space where guests and visitors can enjoy classic and contemporary cocktails, but always prepared in a unique way. There are rare moments when a mixologist creates spirits from rare, high-quality liqueurs. If you order The Sour, with Single Harvest tequila, fresh lime and hints of orange, it will taste exceptional in this atmosphere “that feels so old-world and that has somehow been hidden away throughout all the years of the building’s unique history”, say executive chef Suzanne Goin and manager Carolina Styne.
