It is in the scenic landscape of Finger Lakes, a cluster of eleven lakes, in the New York State, that we discover the hotel called The Lake House on Canandaigua.
Inaugurated in 2020, it was entrusted to Studio Tack, as well as the design house The Brooklyn Home Company. Its location was particularly ‘familiar’ to its co-founders, the siblings Lyndsay Caleo Karol and Bill Caleo, who had grown up near Lake Canandaigua. Sharing the same admittedly timeless aesthetic vision for the project, according to Bill Caleo, “We wanted the property to be design-forward and excite others about traveling to the area while still feeling residentially inspired”. Introducing the visual framework of the surroundings, both in terms of the colours and material options in the interiors, he explains: “We wanted the project to feel relaxed, yet sophisticated and were able to achieve this through clean whites, natural woods and navy, grey and gold tones”.
As part of the essence of both the hotel and The Brooklyn Home Company itself – which merges art and de- sign in their practice – we highlight the hand-carved pieces by Fitzhugh Karol, ranging from lighting to the design of the beds, the chandelier in the lobby, and the large console in the library. “Pieces that become synonymous with the experience of the ho- tel by complementing all the other aspects of design”, Bill said.
