Volume and grandeur define the type of work undertaken by Serôdio Furtado & Associados architecture office. Located on the seafront, this is a project that challenges the horizon within the comfort and fluidity of the home.
Designed on a level that rises from the ground like a shelter, the framework is provided by the sea and horizon. This was the motto of the architectural office when searching for the ideal site for the project. The plan was essentially designed to separate the areas and to establish a relationship between the spaces — the private and social areas and courtyards — as a continuous extension of the landscape. The design and layout of this family residence — with a built area of 1000 m2 on a plot of over 5000 m2 — was defined together with the owners.

The view of the Atlantic was the starting point that would guide the whole project, since the ocean would be its main theme. Seeking to create a villa with views over the landscape, the building spreads over the ground floor, with just the right distance between the home’s areas and a substantial garden area, swimming pool and wooded spaces, which all converge on the path leading up to the main entrance.
With its simple lines and the deference shown towards the surrounding scenery and public space, Casa Miramar B integrates its residential function, in a volume that stands out from the other houses in the surrounding area, with an understated architectural language that blends into the panoramic view. The shared areas of the home are positioned and distributed across the plot in such a way that the field of vision is unobstructed, bringing it closer to the beach line. In the centre, the generous inner courtyard acts as a focal point, flanked by the U-shaped structure, replacing “the Atlantic on days of rough tides”, according to architect João Pedro Serôdio.

In the application of the materials used including concrete, marble, Azulino Cascais and wood there was a concern of creating uniformity, cohesion and fluidity, in line with the geometry of the formwork.
