Founded in 1496 and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the New World. It's against this backdrop that the Kimpton Las Mercedes Hotel emerges, with 130 rooms and an architectural approach that delicately reinterprets the colonial heritage.
The project, designed by the Moneo Brock studio, has preserved the original façades of the 16th-century building while reflecting the tropical soul of the Dominican Republic. Local materials, such as wood and ceramics, combined with sustainable solutions, interact with the tropical climate and reinforce a sense of the city's identity. The courtyard, a core element of the original structure, has been preserved as the building's green lung. With native and indigenous vegetation, it acts as a natural microclimate, where passive climate control strategies reinforce the link between sustainability and comfort.

All the guest rooms overlook the courtyards, and some even feature terraces with jacuzzis.
