This vast property, located in Oropesa, in the province of Toledo in Spain, produces meat, vegetables, fruit and other ecological products, and goes by the name of Dehesa El Milagro (Miracle Meadow).
Although it belongs to Blanca Entrecanales, it was her daughter, Marta de la Rica, an interior designer, who nurtured the rustic and timeless character of an old building, transforming it into a delightful guest house.
Once a dovecote and a farm outbuilding, its ancient structure has been partially preserved. It was essential that the architectural integrity, which provides insulation from the intense heat in summer and cold in winter, was maintained. Bearing this in mind, through the work of the architect Arturo Grinda, the typical adobe brick construction was preserved. Only some parts of the walls on the upper floor have been raised. Everything else, such as the flagstones on the ground floor, the lime plaster on the walls, sealed with beeswax, the wooden beams of the ceilings, the bedroom doors and wardrobes and the washbasins in the bathrooms, have all been restored.
For Marta de la Rica, it was essential that friends and family should be able to relax in a secluded space that dignified what the building had once been and embodied what the farm estate evoked – calmness, tranquillity, a return to its roots, to the land, the countryside and Nature. Stepping inside “Casa de Pueblo”, one feels a freshness thanks to the thick clay walls, which insulate the interiors from the sunlight, and to the ‘Canadian well’ cooling system, which operates by means of subsoil air circulation tubes.

On the ground floor there is an elegant entrance hall, kitchen, dining room, a bedroom and a bathroom. In a narrow, winding way, we reach the first floor with its living room and a further three bedrooms and bathrooms. The upper windows, shaded on the outside by rolled rush matting, open onto the farm’s main courtyard, from where one can appreciate the view of Sierra de Gredos, with its snowy white peaks, from January to May.
