Meinke Flesseman, a Dutch artist who moved to Portimão a few years ago, continuing her parents’ passion for the landscape of the Algarve, decided to move home. This small palace, located close to some of the region’s most fabulous beaches, has always been part of the estate of the city’s renowned family linked to the canning industry, the Belchior family. The dignity and natural beauty, combined with the spaciousness and infinite possibilities that this residence offered Meinke, led her to shed all doubts and embrace this place.

Various rooms and bedrooms currently enable the artist to reinforce her “needs in terms of living, working, exhibiting, among others.” She adds that “this place is perfectly suited to retreats. For groups, art events and exhibitions.” Influenced by the wisdom and skill of the various generations who have always been associated with the canning industry and the house, much of the furniture we can currently appreciate was already part of the residence. However, thanks to the efforts of the new owner, certain pieces have been recycled or assigned other functions. These, together with design objects discovered in second-hand shops, are part of the interior decoration, which also features elements from Meinke’s previous homes or others found in vintage markets.
