Set in the medieval village of Cruïlles, in Baix Empordà, Girona, a 12th-century Catalan masia has become the sanctuary that Cristina Carulla has chosen to call her own, and the place where her vision has found its most genuine expression.

Nestled within the ancient walls of this small village, the property – comprising around 500 m², a 300 m² romantic garden and a detached house for guests – forms a subtle dialogue between architectural heritage and a contemporary approach to living.

The design was based on a principle of continuity. Rather than imposing a new architectural language, it aimed to engage with the existing structure, preserving its character and the authenticity of its materials. The result is an elegant composition, where simplicity asserts itself as the primary language and attention to detail subtly reveals the designer’s personality.

Natural light plays a defining role in the entire experience. As we move through the spaces, it follows the rhythm of the hours, revealing, through changing intensities, the texture of the stone, wood and restored surfaces. In parallel, privacy was conceived as a structural element. Despite its central location, the house was designed as a place of refuge, a space suspended in a reality where silence and tranquillity reign.
