Half an hour from Mexico City, in the greenest part of the metropolis, we find this family refuge. A home that exudes serenity, with the signature of direccion, Mariana Morales' studio, which has forged a deep connection with this project.
Fabian Martinez (photography) and Lúcia Rumor (text) show us what the memories that tell the story of this house are made of, an ode to nature and an invitation to our senses.
Surrounded by trees, this plot of land in Valle de Bravo, near Mexico City, has witnessed the birth of a home that recounts family memories; a place that appeals to a sense of calm. The brief for the house's most recent renovation was simplicity, harmony and preservation of the memories of a gathering place for weekends, containing recollections of several generations. The land was bought around 45 years ago and keeps the identity of the original holiday home that everyone remembers. Over time, there were some changes and renovations. From grandparents to grandchildren and dogs, this is the house where Mariana Morales' family spends time reconnecting with nature, building memories and relaxing.
The Mexican designer has designed the project with a special flavour; it was the family home she used to visit with her parents, siblings, friends and, more recently, with her daughter and nephews. It's the place where they gather to spend time together. The whole family has been involved in the creative process of the remodelling project, which took six months to complete, wrapped in comfort and a welcoming spirit. “In a very personal way, this project reflects my vision and the direction of ‘silent luxury’. With a connection between nature and the senses: what we touch, see, hear, smell and taste become the central focus of the design, where less is more and quality outweighs quantity”, tells us the designer.

This house in the woods is framed by two walls decked with bougainvillea. It is divided into two entrances that lead us through the outdoor spaces, with views of the surrounding grove, a terrace with a jacuzzi and a covered dining and living room with a fireplace – the heart of the house, where most of the family's time is spent.
