At Arbaso, everything is Euskadi! Located in the historic heart of San Sebastián, just a stone’s throw from the neo-Gothic Buen Pastor cathedral, the Arbaso hotel — meaning “ancestors” in Basque — is the epitome of a people, its origins and traditions, its culture and gastronomy.
Owned by a local family, the Arbaso concept was born out of the desire of three sisters to invite travellers to immerse themselves in the essence of Basque culture while enjoying an authentic atmosphere and highly exclusive service.
The feeling of having arrived somewhere welcoming and homely is immediately felt in the reception area. The smell and sound of crackling wood, the large communal table reminiscent of traditional Basque gastronomic societies, absolutely everything breathes memory and vibrant identity.
The historic five-storey building comprises 50 rooms, including duplex apartments with fireplaces and spacious double-height suites offering views of the cathedral. The interior design project by FIARK Arquitectos harmonises sophistication and warmth. Design pieces by Charles Eames or Norman Foster often intermingle with elements designed and produced in the Basque Country, such as the Rafael Moneo chairs originally designed for a local church or the tables and desks produced in Vitoria by Arkaia.
