Formerly owned by cotton shipping magnate Edgar Perry, the four-acre estate boasted a stately mansion of Italian Renaissance features, elegant formal gar- dens with fountains and terraces, and a carriage house.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States, the space was subjected to a major renovation and extension through a successful collaboration between the architects at Clayton Korte and Moule & Polyzoides, with the interior designer Ken Fulk and the landscape architects from Ten Eyck Landscape Architects. This created 42 new rooms and 12 suites, five of which were part of the original mansion.
For Paul Clayton of Clayton Korte, authenticity was observed in everything that was done. However, without being bound by the grandeur and history of the site, Ken Fulk has designed ambiences that harmonise “a certain European elegance with true Texas hospitality”, after all we are in Austin, the state capital. While being revamped, the need for contemporary comforts woven into this heritage has not been neglected.
