Mimco has joined forces with the Studio Doherty team. The new flagship store of the Australian luggage, accessories and jewellery brand has arisen from this partnership.
The store’s sculptural character is immediately apparent from the outside. Its entrance, with a large green arch, reveals the snaking steps of the storefront and the curving aesthetics within. Although the architecture is bold, dynamic and sophisticated, the shelves and display recesses offset the double-height ceiling, providing a more comfortable scale for customers visiting the premises.
Despite the complex interplay of curves and wavy walls, the atmosphere remains uncluttered and serene, ideal for the dynamic rotation and evolution of the products that take centre stage. Being very familiar with its clientele, Mimco was able to explain to the design office which elements were key to highlighting its heritage. Hence the choice of light green glossy plaster and the creation of other elements of interest, so as to create an appealing path around the 150 plus square metres of this retail space.
And so, there are worktops with rounded corners, translucent resin tables and a fixed display unit at the back of the store, consisting of a column of tiles that cuts through a floating shelf, and completed by a winding display rail. This sculptural insertion is punctuated by a curving recess in the ceiling that casts a beam of light, attracting and encouraging customers to wander through.

Similarly, Jordan Fleming’s bespoke wall lighting, nicknamed “Hinge Lights”, recall Mimco’s original zips, which are a ubiquitous feature of their handbags.
