In Tulum, where dense vegetation defines the landscape and history is founded on ancient ruins, a residential complex has emerged that is also an exercise in architecture.
We are in Tulum, in the heart of the jungle, where dense and lush vegetation forms a continuous green horizon. This is where Hacienda Wabi is located, a residential complex that, while based on seemingly rigid geometry, merges with the. landscape and seems destined to return to it. Promoted by Namus – a local property developer specialising in boutique hotels – and designed by the RA! studio, the building serves as a reflection on the passage of time and how nature invariably reclaims its place. The silhouette of Hacienda Wabi is characterised by staggered volumes, connected by staircases and terraces, in an architectural style that evokes the ancient peoples of the region. The complex is unobtrusive, seemingly designed to gradually fade back into its surroundings. This idea of reinterpreted ruins, evident throughout the design, transforms the project into a constantly changing architectural structure. The façades are framed by flower beds that embrace the vegetation, allowing greenery to also work its way in and take its place between slabs and walls. The building is thus both a human shelter and a support for nature.
