Capturing the essence of the cuisine of Jiangnan province, the revamped Bafenbao combines traditional flavours and innovative culinary techniques with a hint of Western influences.
The space is bathed in an elegant colour palette in shades of deep red that emphasise its opulence. Rosewood (Hongmu) — native to the South and East coasts and a symbol of China’s fortune and heritage — reflects the sophistication envisaged for the new aesthetic language of the space, signed by Yifei Wang and Kaiwen Wei, the creative pair that make up the Kai Fei Design studio, based in China.
On the first floor, visitors are greeted by a bespoke reception desk, clad in brass and wood, which blends into the modern lines inspired by traditional Chinese baskets. The typical sliding panels lead to the dining area, designed so that classic elements such as rosewood harmonise with furniture featuring modern details and finishes, vibrantly showcasing contemporary Chinese style.
