"In the past Jinan, the spring water was gurgling all day long, and the flowing image permeated into the sense of hearing and consciousness, which softened the mood of the whole city."
"When the rationality of modernism penetrates life and rewrites the city, how can we add space for lyrical imagination to the rationality of architecture? WATERFROM DESIGN attempts to soften the contemporary architecture of rationalism with the past street style of Quancheng to enable this space to merge into the 72 springs in the city and become the image of the 73rd trickle.
The huge canvas with geometric color blocks stacked to a minimum level injects rich emotions into minimalist rationality, which is close to the modernist proposition of "color-field painting.” However, it is filled with creative emotions, such as passionate shouts and quietness. The work releases the turmoil, penetrates the daily lives and impacts the hearts of people.
Stepping in; Removing the Boundary between Mankind and Painting
For this purpose, we define space as a huge artistic creation and shape the logical layout of colors institutively, rather than build inertia randomly. The corridor area becomes color-fields connected to each other on the canvas with flowing uncertainty. The viewers may follow the clues and start to walk into the depths of the paintings.
Stepping into the building, the entrance is constructed as a starting point from a dug-in white atrium, with rhythmic steps surrounding the sides. The entrance is open to viewers passing by or staying, and the viewers can choose one of the paintings to enter the space. This experience is not to appreciate paintings only, but to immerse themselves in the paintings.
Art is a Flowing Fable
The large blue wall stabilizes the cafe, bar, or bottom wall on the west side, calm as a dark island in the sea, which soothes restlessness and makes viewers feel relieved to place themselves in the blue color. The saturated red color suddenly appears and ends neatly, such as the cornice extending backward at the end of the atrium and the corridor between the color fields. No words are needed to guide the flow, so that the viewers can explore the unknown according to their intuition, just like the idea of the authors without thinking when they write.
The staircase structure displayed in lime white and sculptural cutting lines, with thick white slowly overlapping, blurs the order and appears freehand. The whiteness of time under the patio and the whiteness of shadows between the volumetric bodies are vast and silent in the painting, enabling viewers to pacify their emotions. The Art and Literature Hall on the second floor fills the corners with warm white and is extremely quiet. After passing through the color-field that shakes all kinds of emotions and before leaving the painting, it uses a neutral space to precipitate the saturated feelings.
A Boundless Poetic Artistic Conception beyond Functions
The texture of the object in the painting becomes a stack of oil paint strokes, reflecting thick and heavy, flowing meticulously, and depicting the weight of a single color. The essence of abstraction creation is the use of colors and volume to enable viewers to develop feelings of boundlessness and insignificance, even if they are not really in the endless desert. The embodiment of such an essence enables viewers to move through the painting freely to decide where to ponder.
In addition to brushstrokes, we also attempted to deal with the shape of color blocks from the perspective of installation art. For example, the toilet at the end of the promenade is covered with red, and the strong colors are suddenly gathered and wrapped. The asymmetrical facade and the downwardly converging water drop contour art installation, relative to the white in the open field, strengthen the red tilt and the sense of flow.
Architecture has always been good at constructing shape-processing needs. However, color filling is a kind of intuition and romance. It records the present arbitrarily, does not follow the example of borrowing specific things for metaphor or contrast. It is frank and looks directly at the heart of the creator. With this space work of layout, we hope to open up the viewer's vision to experience an abstraction. The composition of space is free, and the way people feel is the same. Step into the painting realm and enjoy the intimacy and solitude, which require no words for description."
