In Paulínia, Brazil, a contemporary retreat with a rustic soul was born. Tranquillity, identity and just the right touch of sophistication form the basis of this project, designed by Estúdio JB.
“Less excess, more essence”. Inspired by this motto, the team at Estúdio JB designed a detached house of almost 370 m² that blends modernity with a rustic, welcoming touch. This house reflects the owners’ desire to live in a peaceful, nature-filled setting without compromising on sophistication.

With this project, the architects and designers sought to harmonise the strength of natural materials with the intimacy of personal memories, creating a space with a solid, comfortable architecture that is deeply connected to the residents’ identity.

The choice of materials — such as concrete, timber and stone — establishes the house's formal and aesthetic foundation, reinforcing the project’s solid, timeless structure. Inside, the same dialogue is evident, with rustic finishes coexisting with elegant, functional solutions.

The colour palette was defined by combining neutral, understated tones with strategic pops of colour. Among the natural materials, the grey of the concrete and the reddish-brown of the wood stand out in their various applications, striking a balance between robustness and comfort. Inside, the colour scheme is based on elegant tones, ensuring sophistication and understated elegance. Against this backdrop, touches of colour add personality to the space.

The interior design was conceived as an extension of the clients’ identity, highlighting personal memories and sentimental items. The couple have a diverse collection of objects, gathered on their travels, which have been incorporated into the design as focal points, bringing authenticity and a unique character to the spaces. These objects — local crafts, sculptures, works of art — not only carry stories but also add colour and texture, contrasting with the neutral, understated base of the colour palette.

When designing the house, Estúdio JB considered its environmental performance and thermal comfort, particularly through the strategic placement of large windows on opposing façades, which allow natural air circulation, continuous indoor air renewal, and a reduced need for artificial climate control.

The project’s privileged location, surrounded by nature, enhances cross-ventilation and the influx of natural light, creating a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere. Blending harmoniously into the setting, the house integrates perfectly into the landscape, as if it had always been part of it.
