Inspired by the fluid versatility of wicker but meticulously carved from Sapele wood, Expormim’s latest Spring collection is an evocative precursor to the heights of summer.
The name is no coincidence. Rooted in Latin, Meridies refers to midday, but it also conjures that cool, dappled sanctuary where time stands still during the heat of the day. It is exactly this "state of mind," reminiscent of a summer siesta following a morning by the sea, that veteran Italian designer Roberto Lazzeroni sought to capture for the brand.
While Expormim’s heritage is inextricably linked to rattan, Meridies explores a new material path without losing its soul. Each piece is crafted from FSC®-certified Sapele wood, handled with exacting precision to replicate the organic, sweeping silhouettes usually reserved for the natural pliability of wicker. The result is a series of sculptural forms that mirror the natural world - petals, seeds, and leaves - creating a sense of visual weightlessness that belies the timber's inherent robustness.
A Dialogue Between Spaces
Meridies is, by design, a "borderline collection." It speaks to the contemporary desire to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living, dissolving physical barriers through versatile aesthetics. Whether situated on a terrace or in a drawing room, comfort is paramount; generous seating and semi-circular backrests are paired with occasional tables that juxtapose tactile ceramics with the timeless elegance of travertine.
Ultimately, Lazzeroni has created more than just outdoor furniture; he has crafted an invitation to slow down. Here, design acts as the bridge between the architecture of the home and the landscape that unfolds beyond it.
