A journey with the aim of studying the cultural music of the ‘Ga’ tribe near Accra, would end up leading Gregory MacCarthy to settle in Ghana years later. Nowadays, the founder of the Baba Tree Basket Company employs a community of 500 weavers, responsible for converting artisanal baskets in genuine works of art.
Tell us about the fair trade business you have created with Baba Tree?
It’s quite simple, it’s about ‘all of us.’ Everyone involved in this ‘madhouse’ (laughs) called the Baba Tree must benefit substantially. We haven’t gotten there to my satisfaction.
