Set in Diagonal Mar Park, a few meters from the beach in Barcelona, this modern apartment was converted by Tobias Laarmann and Yolanda Yuste from Spanish-German architectural design firm YLAB. The idea was to convert a two-bedroom apartment into “a comfortable and functional one bedroom home”. With the main areas connected, this space features big windows, offering panoramic views to the park and sea.
The partition walls are now replaced by large floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, marked by the contrast between oak wood cabinets and white lacquer wall cladding. In the kitchen, simple lines define every detail, from Aytm black stools and Delta Light ceiling lamps to Normann Copenhagen and Hay pieces by Mobler. A central element “that hides a structural column and frames the sea view at the rear” separates the kitchen and the living room, which is aligned with the master bedroom. Among the highlights are the plants in self-watering planters by Hobby Flower, a selection of art pieces made by Claudia Valsells or a Vitra lounge chair.
The soft tones and textiles by Materia define the master suite, where the closet area leads to a white stoneware tile cladding bathroom. During Barcelona Design Week 2019, this project was open to the public, thanks to the support of prestigious international design brands.
