Surrounded by the magnificent landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, it was in Portland that the interior designer Jeanne Feldkamp and her husband, Dan Diephouse, found the ideal place for their home. In an encounter between city and nature, the couple were searching for a spirit of freedom, not only because of the surrounding natural beauty, but also because of the dynamic lifestyle that defines them. And this neighbourhood, with its mix of centuries-old homes and contemporary architecture, was the perfect setting for building their joint dream. This home has been conceived to blend in with the local environment and has been designed by Waechter Architecture, which has succeeded in transposing the balance of modernist elements with a brutalist physicality into reality. With its 408m2 distributed over three floors and incorporating four bedrooms, the building rises from the street, with the ground level being used for the garagem and access. Featuring a surface structure that promotes continuity between interior and exterior, in a dialogue between robustness and warmth, the house's story is told through layers of materials, memories and moments. Jeanne confesses that in na endeavour to make every detail reflect the couple's tastes and way of life, "the biggest creative challenge, without a doubt, was designing for myself. The added pressure of creating a 'forever home' didn’t help. I just wanted so badly for it to be amazing!". Every detail was idealised to reflect the couple's tastes and way of life.
