On the north coast of Scotland, south of the iconic Kyle of Tongue loch, a Victorian building has been reimagined by Groves-Raines Architects Studio (GRAS), becoming a home away from home, surrounded by wilderness and with simplicity being its greatest charm: Kinloch Lodge.
The project, carried out in collaboration with Ruth Kramer, creative director of Wildland — an organisation dedicated to the restoration of some of Scotland’s most precious landscapes — has materialised in spaces designed around the magnificent views seen through all the windows and has been reflected in thoughtfully-designed interiors, painted in warm colours and natural materials. Among them, the living room, organised around a large fireplace and furnished with deep sofas, is the perfect place to relax after a walk or to engage your mind with a board game. The seven bedrooms in total are located on the first floor and have been designed to be quietly beautiful, each inspired by their respective views.
Outside, Richard Preston Garden Design’s landscaping gently links the main house to the collection of iron-clad outbuildings, each of which has been remodelled and reconfigured internally to house support facilities such as space for movie nights, yoga classes or spa treatments.
