Inspired by the mysterious beauty of the black opal, L’Opale Noire brings a fresh perspective to the boutique hospitality experience through a captivating interplay of light, textures and materials.

Located in Paris’s 7th arrondissement, on Rue de Bellechasse, L’Opale Noire offers a fresh interpretation of the boutique hotel concept, conceived as an intimate and sophisticated world.
Designed by interior decorator Thomas Fournier, this four-star petit hôtel, with 30 rooms, draws its primary inspiration from the enigmatic beauty of the black opal. Its shifting reflections, chromatic depths and subtle iridescent nuances translate into an enveloping and distinctive atmosphere.
The project offers an opportunity to explore a contemporary approach to hotel design that extends beyond aesthetics to shape an immersive experience. Through the interplay of materials, craftsmanship, lighting and sensory details, each element contributes to a cohesive identity in which materiality, light and the perception of space play a central role in the guest experience.

Thomas Fournier’s first hotel project draws inspiration from the intimacy of 18th-century French boudoirs and the decorative richness of 19th-century Orientalism, reinterpreting these historical influences through a visual language that balances tradition and modernity without resorting to literal reproductions of the past.
Patterned silks, black lacquer, abaca, rich velvets, dark woods and patinated brass form a layered material palette that responds subtly to the changing light throughout the day. Accents of burnt ochre and crimson red introduce warmth and depth, while bespoke furniture designed by Léa Zeroil and crafted by French artisans reinforces the project’s commitment to detail and material integrity.

L’Opale Noire also tells the story of a family transformation. Housed in a building once occupied by its owners, the concept emerged from the coming together of different creative talents, whose visions converge to shape a memorable identity.
From the interior design and artistic direction led by Thomas Fournier, to the bespoke furniture designed by Léa Zeroil, the graphic identity developed by Apolline Risser and Tiffanie Sibille, and the exclusive fragrance created by Paul Guerlain, each contribution forms part of a carefully considered whole.
This collaboration extends across different dimensions of the guest experience, bringing together interior architecture, visual communication and an olfactory signature to create a coherent identity that remains recognisable beyond the physical space.

At the heart of this concept is Le Boudoir, conceived as a destination in its own right for the local community to gather and connect. Inspired by private salons, the restaurant embraces an intimate atmosphere and opens onto a secluded courtyard, offering a place of respite and encounter within the urban fabric.
