By turns, formerly a convent, a school, a laboratory, The Movies and, currently, the De Witt Restaurant. This historic building has led many lives and, through the hands of Studio Modijefsky — which has breathed new life into the building without stripping it of the lives it has already lived — a vibrant destination has been born that brings together culinary delicacies and cinematic experiences.
The cloister is what has survived from the convent, while the tiled walls, the windows overlooking the classrooms and the iconic benches are the legacy of the school. The laboratory is still visible in the form of test tubes. For the cinema, Studio Modijefsky evokes the old-school glamour of the silver screen complete with showy curtains and projectors.
Reflecting the city’s pride, the colour palette adheres to Dordrecht’s historic tones, establishing De Witt as an iconic centre for the community.
On the ground floor, an impressive entrance designed by Lugten Malschaert Architects greets visitors. The former café and restaurant have been replaced by an expansive brasserie with an open kitchen and a bar. The latter, whose design conjures up a stage, serves cocktails under a spotlight, celebrating cinema and the performing arts.

Upstairs, two staircases lead to a cinema room. Striking sun loungers offer views of the Kunstkerk and the square.
