Between the intense blue of the Mediterranean and the rolling hills of Cala Vadella, Can Chachacha in Ibiza emerges as the personal retreat of Oscar Lucien Ono, founder of Maison Numéro 20. Conceived as an intimate project developed with his partner, the house embodies a fundamental idea: that of shelter.

Facing the horizon where Es Vedrà rises with its imposing presence, the intervention begins with an existing 1970s structure. By preserving its essence and its iconic whitewashed façade, deeply rooted in the island’s vernacular architecture, the project does not seek rupture, but rather continuity: a contemporary interpretation that honours the memory of the built environment while transforming it into a new language.

Arranged across two levels connected by a sculptural white staircase, the house unfolds with a sense of fluidity. Natural light permeates every space, dissolving the boundaries between architecture and landscape. Two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and independent patios provide moments of privacy and retreat, while the main level brings together the kitchen, dining room and living area within a single open space designed for gathering and sharing.

It is precisely in this dialogue between interior and exterior that one of the project’s greatest strengths lies. Outside, generous terraces become a natural extension of the home, embracing dining areas, spaces for relaxation and an open-air shower. Inside, the house reveals a more intimate narrative, shaped by objects, art and furniture that carry stories of journeys, encounters and memories. A Japanese-inspired screen, brought from the couple’s Parisian residence, introduces a sense of cultural displacement and personal history. Pieces designed by Maison Numéro 20 reinforce the space’s authorial identity, while works by Christophe Gaignon, Daniel Nuñez and François Mascarello add further layers of artistic sensitivity and expression.

The colour palette, composed of earthy tones such as mustard, orange and warm neutrals, evokes the intense golden light of the island. Accents of green and blue establish a dialogue with the surrounding vegetation and the sea, balancing warmth with freshness. The result is an eclectic and sophisticated atmosphere, infused with a bohemian spirit that reinterprets the free-spirited essence of 1970s Ibiza.

Above all, Can Chachacha is a place of permanence. A home designed for long conversations, enduring memories and moments of contemplation. Between the simplicity of its materials, the intimacy of its objects and the powerful presence of the landscape, it creates a more conscious and meaningful way of inhabiting space.
