A 19th-century residence in which contemporary design merges with the historical charm of the time. This is the result of the latest project by Inna Azvyalova's ADDburo studio.
Located in a prestigious and historic neighbourhood in the heart of Moscow, this 19th-century residence was conceived and (re)designed for an art enthusiast family that values privacy and elegance.

The project given to Inna Azvyalova and her team involved renovating the exterior of the building and completely remodelling the interior. The façade was meticulously restored by ADDburo studio to honour its history. "We aimed to preserve the architectural integrity of the exterior while completely reimagining the interior," says Inna.

Inspired by the building's historical context and contemporary European design trends, the interior designer has created a sophisticated and tranquil environment using a neutral colour palette, refined materials, and carefully selected designed pieces of furniture for this project.

“We opted for a delicate palette of soft neutrals, deep blues, and rich textures to create a tranquil and stylish atmosphere”. Regarding materials, “We used a combination of high-quality materials such as marble, brass, wood, and custom textiles. Together, these materials were chosen for their durability, timeless appeal, and capacity to add warmth and texture, creating a balanced environment,” explains the founder of ADDburo studio.

As far as the works of art are concerned, the owners played an important role in choosing each piece. “Our approach was to ensure that each artwork would not only stand as a masterpiece on its own but also resonate with the architectural and design elements of the space,”. Inna says that “While the design was not built around these specific pieces, they were chosen early in the process to complement and elevate the overall aesthetic.”

The designers were responsible for designing the furniture to create a space tailored to the family. “Our approach to custom furniture and millwork focuses on creating pieces that integrate seamlessly into the design while enhancing functionality,” explains Inna Azvyalova. “Every detail, from cabinetry to built-ins, is meticulously crafted to provide harmony.”

Throughout the project, the ADDburo team faced several obstacles. One challenge was balancing the preservation of the building's historic elements with the introduction of contemporary design. Another was reconstructing the façade, which required intricate craftsmanship to maintain its original beauty.

After two years of work, the residence is now a space of comfort where classic elegance and irreverent modernity meet in perfect harmony.
