Regarding the practice of architecture as a contemporary response to the physical and emotional needs of human beings, for Diego Villaseñor, this practice is related to the art of living, expressing itself as a harmonious habitat for its users. Born in Guadalajara (Jalisco), he founded his studio in 1976 in Mexico City, and since then has designed majestic projects including private homes, tourist resorts and hotels all over Mexico, Latin America, the United States, the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf. Projects of outstanding beauty, whose identity and unique shapes are built in total harmony with their natural surroundings.
How would you describe the architecture you practice?
First of all , my architecture is committed to its context and its users. From that point onwards, I then start to generate a lifestyle which aspires to a better attitude compared to the present moment: I resort to the technology that is available at the moment and in that location, then develop the shape together with the function, in a response that could only occur in that place, at that moment and in that context. I would say that it is an honest architecture that seeks to adapt itself to an ‘art of living’ which reveals itself in relation to its simple function or the superficial quest for shape.
