Leaving Sydney centre, we headed for the city’s suburbs, on the coastal fringe of Dover Heights, to check out the latest home of the Australian couple Jason Johnson and Portia Thomson. A seductive refuge designed to accommodate the couple and their children, conceived in the image of the owners through the hands of designer Yasmine Ghoniem.
Beyond the refinement of the colours and the structural extravagance, fluidity emerges as the cornerstone of the project, promoting a gentle, almost imperceptible connection with the exterior. This approach has resulted in the “removal of the dining room walls and the raising of the kitchen and living room ceilings”, explains the founder of the young Australian studio YSG who spent 12 months overseeing the development of a balanced, sculptural aesthetic, where arched finishes, pastel tones and textured surfaces shape the sensory experience. In visual terms, the spatial solutions involved the addition of an elegant fireplace as well as multiple doors and walkways, enhancing the perfect harmony with the chromatic language of the house.
