The renowned contemporary artist Eva Claessens is presenting a new exhibition at the recently renovated CRIATURA in Lisbon. The exhibition can be visited until November 23.
The high vaulted ceiling, white walls, and stone cladding have made this space the perfect place to showcase the collection of unique pieces by the Belgian artist. Eva has invited some of her closest friends to immerse themselves in her universe and present a special exhibition together.
The guest of honour is Julian Lennon, an English musician, photographer, and philanthropist. Eva says, “Julian is my best friend, my partner in crime, and we create together as we breathe. Julian was my natural choice to share these beautiful walls with.”
In addition to Julian, Eva has opened the doors to other artist friends to display their art through pieces and site-specific installations that will leave their mark in the artist's world. For example, artists like Ricardo Labougle, the renowned Argentine photographer who contributed to the most prestigious design and architecture publications for over three decades. Eva mentions, “Ricardo is a close friend of many years,” adding that “he has spent hours and hours in my home/studio, whatever city it was at the moment, shooting me and my work, talking and sharing life experiences.”
Maintaining spontaneity as the theme of this exhibition, which can be visited until November 23, Eva Claessens unveils her world here, sharing it with her closest friends and creating unique moments. She says, “I want people to feel how I work, my aesthetics, what I need to be able to create. I have friends dropping by all the time, just sitting on the floor while I work or helping me with what is needed. And now that I’m bringing the atmosphere of my home/studio to life in this exclusive show, it made sense to ask my friends to share their work, too,” concludes Eva.
EVA CLAESSENS
Born in Belgium in 1971, she studied at several art academies in her native province of Antwerp. At the age of 18, she moved to Florence (Italy), where she studied at the Academia Dell’Arte and worked at the art studio of Ro- mano Stefanelli as a model and an artist. Her work and way of life took her to the USA, Jamaica, Israel, India, Uruguay, Portugal, and France. During this time, she perfected her use of different colour techniques. She has held several individual exhibitions and participated in others all across Europe, South America, and Asia. Her work has been commissioned by private colections and international collectors and companies around the world. Eva works mainly with acrylic paint, aquarelle and pencil on various structures, sculptures, handmade prints and ceramics, an innovative approach to art that is further characterized by the way she transposes the theme of her 2-dimensional paintings into 3-dimensional sculptures, which she then uses as a fresh canvas.
