On the northern side of the Santa Monica Mountains, designer and property developer Lidan Sfadia has created a Californian home that radiates warmth, seamlessly blending refined European elegance with the inviting rustic allure of Napa.
In Encino, California, this home stands out for its clean, contemporary lines accented by classic architectural elements. “From my travels around the world, I’ve cultivated a strong European influence for the design,” explains Lidan Sfadia. “I was also inspired by Napa to create a barn-inspired property.”
The interior exudes tranquillity and cohesion, allowing the home’s architecture and abundant natural light to command attention. “We selected warm whites, soft greys, and natural oak to craft a visually appealing, inviting, and intimate setting.”
Like the palette, each material was meticulously chosen. “We used European white oak, Calacatta marble, and antique brass fixtures. Our intention was to select enduring, classic materials that evoke both longevity and comfort,” says Lidan Sfadia.
The choice of white oak, both for the flooring and the cupboards, was intended to pay homage to Encino's traditional landscapes, bringing natural elements into the property's interior. The combination of soft linen in the curtains with the wooden finishes was carefully considered to create a more relaxed take on luxury that prioritises light, shade and texture.
The central goal of this project was to foster a sense of naturalness and warmth. “I wanted to craft a peaceful setting, where the design felt organic, and the home seemed more intimate than its size suggests,” explains Lidan. “I wanted all the rooms to be inviting and personal.” This effect was created through materials, colours, and room layout, promoting seamless flow throughout.
Completed in 2024, the home fuses European refinement with Napa’s rustic spirit, creating a sanctuary that evokes “love at first sight.”
