The project was the result of a collaboration between the owner, David Bergman - creative director of an international fashion brand - and Daniel Ching, principal of untitled design agency. Naturally, Bergman acquired, with his professional experience, solid knowledge in different areas of design, including architecture and interior design, which greatly facilitated this collaboration.

“A character home reimagined” - was the main intention of this renovation project. As the building had traditional architectural forms, the objective was to adapt a modern renovation to a more classic house. Initially, the dialogue between the house's intrinsic architecture and a true modern interior was not that easy. But, as the interiors progressed, the project became more cohesive. While a strong language of clean lines was maintained, the materials palette was inspired by old world traditions, which has become a key element in the design of the house.

Traditional materials, such as limestone counters, the fireplace, the fir wood floors and the oak joinery, remained faithful to the original. Throughout the remodeling process, an effort was made to renounce typical materials of modern engineering, to balance the original features of the house and the minimalism of modern design.

Leading to a palette of old world materials, several pieces of vintage furniture collected by Bergman are found throughout the house. Collectible pieces include items from Nakashima, Hans Wegner, Charlotte Perriand, Poul Kjaerholm, Jorgen Kastholm, Preben Fabricius, Norman Cherner, Jasper Morrison, Serge Mouille and Isamu Noguchi. More recent classics, such as Pierre Augustin Rose's Minotaure armchair and Piero Lissoni's Extrasoft sofa, have been added to the owner's collection.

Bespoke furniture was designed specifically for the environment of this project, which is an important element for the untitled design agency. The dining table, desks, beds and nightstands were developed specifically for this project.

Bergman's art collection seen throughout the house includes pieces by Inez and Vinoodh, Roberta Bailey, Larry Clark, Alasdair McClellan, Wolfgang Tillmans, Elisabeth Peyton. Eddie wrey, Robert Rauschenberg, Casper Sejersen and Sterling Ruby.
