Just ten minutes from the vibrant energy of Miami, this Key Biscayne apartment presents itself as a serene retreat where design is experienced with intention, sensitivity and memory.
Conceived by Lamarc Studio, founded by Marcela Restrepo, the project was born from the desire to create a home that is at once a personal gallery, a setting for social life and an intimate refuge. A space where past and present, classical and contemporary, engage in a natural and balanced dialogue. From the moment one enters, the tone is clear: Nero Marquina marble and travertine chequerboard floors ground the space with timeless elegance, while antique mirrors and sculptural accents introduce a narrative that bridges history and modernity. The home, with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, unfolds across a single, fluid level, designed to accommodate both family moments and more animated gatherings, with the living, dining and bar areas flowing into a sophisticated yet welcoming continuum.

This project does not belong to a single style, and that is precisely its strength. It reflects the two distinct visions of the homeowners, an Ecuadorian couple in their fifties who chose this property as their second residence. She gravitates towards the classical world of mouldings, crystal and traditional art; he prefers the clarity of clean lines and the restraint of contemporary design. The challenge was embraced and resolved with mastery: classical elements are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, allowing ornament and simplicity to coexist in harmony. The interior presents itself as a lived-in gallery, where every choice is deliberate. Design pieces with pure lines and soft curves sit alongside artworks punctuated with colour, while the backdrop palette, inspired by the sea, the sky and Miami’s natural light, creates an atmosphere of constant tranquillity. Sand tones, very light ecru and crisp whites converse with natural materials and expressive stones such as Viola and Hermitage, which emerge as true sculptural statements within the space.

The intervention involved a profound reconfiguration of the social area, including the creation of a functional laundry room and a larger, more open kitchen. Even transitional spaces were treated as moments of impact, such as the former powder room, now reinvented with a raw wood mirror and a suspended travertine basin, in an exercise of balance between boldness and restraint. The guiding principle was clear: strong, memorable details, without ever overwhelming the environment.
Light, a central element of Miami’s architecture, was treated as a raw material. The removal of heavy coves made it possible to maximise ceiling height and create clean, continuous lines, allowing light to move freely across stone, art and surfaces, reinforcing a sense of spaciousness and lightness. In the bedrooms, the register becomes more restrained: natural textures, taupe tones and soft colours create quiet retreats, designed for rest and introspection. The choice of materials also reflects the homeowners’ background in naval design, where durability and the noble ageing of finishes are essential. Travertine establishes a calm and timeless foundation throughout the home, while the bathrooms assume bolder architectural gestures, such as the dramatic Viola stone vanities in the primary suite, balanced by microcement and minimalist solutions. The kitchen and bar, both clad in Hermitage stone, celebrate hospitality with a sculptural and sophisticated presence.

More than an aesthetic exercise, this project is a testament to trust. Even before the property was purchased, the Lamarc Studio team was already working on layouts and strategies to transform an unremarkable apartment into the home that exists today. The result is a space that tells a story of shared vision, creative risk and design conceived to endure. A true contemporary sanctuary, where stone, light and art come together to celebrate the beauty of living well, surrounded by the turquoise waters of Key Biscayne.
