Interior Design: Amna Chaudhry Interiors
In Green Community, west of Dubai, the latest project by Amna Chaudhry Interiors combines Mediterranean tranquillity and Parisian grandeur in a family home.
Built in the Spanish Renaissance style, this house reflects a careful blend of aesthetics, centred on the lifestyle of the young couple and their two children. “We love modern European aesthetics and thought it would work well for this house”, says Amna Chaudhry, interior designer.
The interiors were designed to complement the view and the surrounding environment. The designers sought to encapsulate the lightness and relaxation of resort life with the grandeur of a historic interior, one that is striking and full of character. This vision resulted in a welcoming and sophisticated space that artfully balances the tranquil Mediterranean atmosphere with the drama of Paris.
Originally, the house had a more compartmentalised structure. To achieve a greater sense of fluidity, “we removed several walls to create a larger entrance hall and a formal living room”, explains Amna. The main architectural interventions in this renovation — such as expanding and redefining the entrance hall, adding arches in the living areas, and designing the steel-and-glass doors — were carefully planned to create moments of immediate impact and define the transition from public to private spaces.
Although the colours specified in the initial briefing were neutral, the interior designer wanted to add a surprise element. “We took a step forward and started introducing dramatic colours throughout the house”. The rich and sophisticated palette was based on the owners' personal taste: the kitchen cabinets are a deep, earthy green, complemented by green Calacatta marble — inspired by the homeowner's favourite colour. With the husband in mind, who is a fan of stronger tones, the team opted for burgundy details — on the living room sofa, the bathroom wallpaper and the headboard in the master bedroom.
A commitment to using natural, durable materials guided Amna Chaudhry. “As a company, we always focus on natural materials that look timeless and age well”. In this project, the material library features a mix of marble, linen, velvet, brass, and wood.
The result of this project is a masterpiece in the combination of historical elements with modern European aesthetics — celebrating bold colours and natural materials and providing a sophisticated yet striking effect.
