After a forced break imposed by the pandemic, GANDIABLASCO is again recognizing and supporting the creativity of young talents in outdoor furniture design.
This year, candidates faced the challenge of designing an outdoor, functional, innovative office. The proposals had to meet three fundamental requirements: they had to be original, industrially reproducible and produced without using any plastic material that wasn't 100% recyclable.
The aim was to create outdoor workspaces prioritizing criteria of versatility, flexibility and dynamism. Ideas closely related to the global context of recent years, with the pandemic marking our lives and changing how we live and work.
In this fifteenth edition, the specialists who evaluated the applications were: José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, president and creative director of Gandia Blasco S.A.; Álvaro Matías, CEO of ALMADÁS and director of the Madrid Design Festival; Marta Alonso and Imanol Calderón, founding architects and designers of Mayice Studio; Marisa Santamaría, researcher, teacher and promoter of global design trends; and Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill, co-founder and creative director of LZF, and co-founder and CCO of LZF (National Design Award 2020).
The awarded projects were Midsommar, from NMASA Design Studio —which won first prize—; Humpys, by Eduardo Mora Castedo — recognized with second place; and Eclipse, by María Pía Palacio, Mariana Paccieri and Lucia Rush — which deserved mention honourable.
After the 2021 hiatus, this edition of the GANDIABLASCO International Outdoor Furniture Design Contest was exceptional. A return to normality, to boost creativity and talent anywhere in the world, with an eye on the future and the innovations brought about by recent changes that have affected us all as a society: intending to rethink the spaces around us back, valuing the time lived in outdoor areas and putting design at the service of well-being.
The GANDIABLASCO International Outdoor Furniture Design Competition returns for its 16th edition next year.
