From the 22nd to the 26th of November, Lisbon will host a talks cycle with the theme “Vitra Originals & Their Stories”.
5 days, 5 originals, 5 stories, 5 architects, 5 conversations and also 5 'stores' - a week dedicated to the universe of Vitra, with the participation of Joana Astolfi, Manuel Aires Mateus, Daniela Franceschini, Paulo Jervell and José Mateus . Invited to travel through the Vitra universe, its past, present and future, the architects chose 5 Originals by Vitra chairs as the theme for these conversations, moderated by journalist Patrícia Barnabé. They are the Lounge Chair designed by Charles & Ray Eames; a Cité by Jean Prouvé; the Grand Repos by Antonio Citterio; Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby's Tip Ton; and Jasper Morrison's EVO-C.

Whenever a Vitra piece arrives in a home, an office or a public space, it is accompanied by a long story. This is the case of the Lounge Chair - which starts this series of 5 talks -, whose history is intertwined with the origins of Vitra itself founded in 1953, when Willi Fehlbaum, on a trip to the USA, discovered the chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames, and decided to become a furniture manufacturer. Working in collaboration with some of the most important designers in the world, Vitra has been producing many classic, bygone furniture that remain as current as ever and continue to inspire us. Likewise, it has been focusing on quality and innovation, strengthening its relationship with names in current design - and the result of these collaborations is always original.

It is precisely on the stories surrounding each of these chairs, which are themselves symbolic of certain decades and phases in the history of the Swiss manufacturer, that these conversations will develop, approaching and debating different themes. From the sustainability of design - a central theme in all of Vitra's activities - to why investing in an original, without forgetting the way in which design meets architecture.

These and other topics under debate, between November 22nd and 26th, at 6 pm, in the following places:
