Located in Québec, the renowned restaurant Le Cloché penché was recently renovated and the project is signed by APPAREIL Architecture.
The owners wanted to (re) imagine the space inspired by their bold and classic culinary creations. The APPAREIL Architecture team then redesigned the space in its entirety: from the kitchen to the bar, through the layout of the tables and the aesthetics of the restaurant. The challenge was to find the perfect balance between classic and modern, between respect for the history of the place and the integration of contemporary elements that remain true to the soul of this establishment.

A new identity with a Nordic touch
Originally an old 1916 bank, the restaurant maintains the original floor and moldings. The large windows flood the interior with natural light and highlight the wooden frames that contrast with the white walls. The resulting classical atmosphere remains faithful to the spirit of the place, bringing it, however, to the contemporary period through integrated design elements, such as lamps and some furniture.

Local flavors at the heart of the experience
The architects wanted to keep the kitchen in the center of the restaurant, opening it also to the dining room, in order to facilitate contact with customers and optimize the team's service. Different zones and environments have been created, which improve the customers' experience according to the location where they are. At the entrance, the area with a long and curved bench offers a more intimate and engaging experience, while the right bench in the main room allows customers to enjoy a privileged view of the kitchen and experience the most lively and friendly atmosphere in the restaurant. The new space distances itself from the monochromatic aesthetic of the traditional bistro and embraces its Nordic identity through a new color palette: forest green, which is mixed with orange wood essences and contrasting brown and terracotta tones. With this project, APPAREIL Architecture intended to value creativity, local products and the work of artisans, which resulted in an honest and authentic design that respects the tradition and culture of the place.
