Keeping it simple and minimal is also about keeping it clean and organized - that’s why storage is probably the new black when it comes to home decor and modern living. The new project of Colombo and Serboli Architecture (CaSA) shows exactly that: it occupies a historic 13th-century building, in the oldest part of Barcelona. After its renovation, the flat is now a colorful and vibrant space, conceived specially for fashion professional from Italy.

The client wanted a wardrobe solution for clothing, accessories and sports equipment, so the idea was to create a bespoke storage unit, converting the hall into a disguised walk-in-wardrobe. The result is a made-to-measure, deep blue, floor to ceiling cabinetry, that connects the living area to the entrance while closet doors on both sides.

With its palette of white and strong colors, the rest of the apartment remains airy and bright in the living and kitchen space. False ceilings were removed to expose the Catalan vaults and wooden beamed ceilings, “all painted in white to increase brightness”, explained the studio.

Highlight to the main feature of the open kitchen, an arc-shaped, coral-colored volume, which houses a guest bedroom. “A full-height volume would have reduced the feeling of space in the big living room, while using a half-height volume would have transformed its top in a dusty, dark corner. So we opted for an arc shape, that while almost touching the wooden beamed ceilings, it enhances and preserves the full room height”. they added.
