Lounging on the cushions on the terrace, our faces warmed by the gentle sun, we take in and savour the peace and uninterrupted views around us. Our gaze wanders to the green landscape of Serra d’Arrábida and then rests on the blue ocean which seems to blur with the sky on this clear day. We are at Cabo Espichel, on one end of the bay bathed by the Atlantic, that makes this the westernmost point of continental Europe. “The feeling of being at the bout du monde – Land’s End – just 45 minutes away from a capital (Lisbon) makes this unique”, acknowledges Julie Halleux, who discovered here the ideal retreat for more peaceful weekends in the company of her family and friends.
