On the following day, Mafalda takes us to the sanctuary known as São Salvador do Mundo. From the top of this belvedere we can see the so-called Cachão da Valeira, which marks the sub-regions
of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, which are so different from each other. With the construction of the dam, the image we have of the river today is of a serene river, contrasting with the furious waters of bygone years which made the crossing of the Upper Douro so difficult and responsible for many a famous boat wreck.

From the car window we take delight in the sculptural landscape which extends up the steep slopes of this wine region that is simultaneously productive but, exacting, in terms of the work demanded of the resilient locals.
