The project by architect João Mendes Ribeiro for the Torre de Palma Wine Hotel, aimed to recover the buildings of an extensive century-old property, as well as developing new elements in order to respond to a luxury hotel necessities. Located in Monforte, in Alto Alentejo, Portugal, this tourist resort is also dedicated to the Lusitano horse breeding and wine production.
With 19 accommodation units – with the option of «houses alentejanas» or rooms – the architectonic intervention respected the morphology of the original buildings, only introducing small changes in the interiors. The new constructions, an array of simple geometric volumes, were separated from the existing houses and perfectly integrated in the landscape.
