Signed by the Italian studio PLUS ULTRA, this project celebrates a dialogue between abstraction and decoration.
Conveniently located in the historic area of Milan, close to the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, between Via Lanzone and Via Camminadella, this apartment was designed for a young couple passionate about classic design.
The layout of the apartment, characterised by contemporary graphic and textural details, quietly enters the composition, only to take a leading role. The work of distribution, geometries, colours and textures initially defines a kind of connective tissue that emerges as the actual architectural intervention: discreet, sophisticated and determined.
Access to the house, located on the top floor of a building from the 1950s, is through the atrium and courtyard of Casa Volonteri, a historic 17th-century palace known for its facade with architectural interventions by Giuseppe Sommaruga, mixing elements of the Liberty with a Baroque Influence.
The project arose from reorganising the apartment's spaces, which needed a more evident hierarchy in their sequence. The main objective was to restore its functional and spatial order, creating a cleaner layout and defining a new atmosphere through a specific selection of materials and colours. In addition to the client's existing collection of design classics, PLUS ULTRA's architects carefully selected and integrated some contemporary pieces.
