A residence that pays homage to barn-like houses of the State Collective Farm in Poland.
Inspired by the barn-like houses of the State Collective Farm that defined the essence of the 70’s buildings in Poland, this old barn is now a single-family residence that preserves its original simplicity and layout.

With that in mind, the concrete structure of the building, some bricks, and steel elements were left untouched, while the main structure is now surrounded by four different fields: two of them became an external terrace while the two others became a double-height living room, explained mode:lina studio, the practice behind the architectural project. The old and the new building are now perfectly connected and the roof was raised so the private areas could be integrated on the first level.

Large and irregular openings pierced on the wood cladding façade allow for wide views out towards the trees, merging seamlessly indoors and outdoors. Inside, a minimalistic aesthetic defines the contrast between wood, polished granite, bricks, or concrete. The result is a raw property, where sophistication can be found on the bold combination of patterns and textures.
