The artistic installation The End of Sitting presents a new concept that excludes the traditional chair and desk, as essential for a working space. The proposal comes from the Dutch experimental studio RAAAF (Rietveld Architecture Art Affordances) and the visual artist Barbara Visser.
The End of Sitting invites users to try several standing working positions, building from the well known negative effects of sitting for too long. «Our art installation isn't an answer to the sitting problem but is a radical proposal to make people aware and to challenge them to start thinking in a different way about our working environment», says Ronald Rietveld from RAAAF.
The project can be the starting point for a research into possibilities of enhancing comfort in working environments.
