Between sea and river, Modular Bahia rethinks the way we experience nature. UNA barbara and valentim's project combines sustainability, innovation, and irreverent design.
On the northern coast of the Brazilian state of Bahia, Modular Bahia proposes a contemporary tropical refuge that is sensitive to the local territory and climate. The project, designed by architecture studio UNA barbara e valentim, combines industrialised solutions with bioclimatic strategies, responding to environmental conditions and the desire for an occupation that is more integrated into the landscape.
Built on a peninsula, the house is divided into three independent sectors, separated by large patios. The spatial organisation allows for the coexistence of different groups, respecting their rhythms and privacy. The spaces interconnect with a natural fluidity, alternating between moments of calm and conviviality, with breathtaking views of the sea, the river, or the forest.
Inside, the walls and ceilings are made of wood, complemented by large glass panels that visually integrate the house with the surrounding landscape. Large wooden decks extend the interior floor to the balconies, and spacious, open terraces connect the various building modules.
This project utilized the Modular BV system, developed by UNA barbara e valentim in partnership with Crosslam Brasil and Abaeté. This system transforms the construction model into a high-performance, industrialized product, combining the speed of assembly with personalized design and sustainability.
The project was developed based on efficient environmental strategies, including the use of reforested wood as the primary raw material, the design of large eaves for shade and façade protection, and windows on opposite façades to ensure cross-ventilation. The sloping roof also facilitates the exhaustion of hot air, guaranteeing thermal comfort without the need for air conditioning.
Bahia Modular is part of a new era in architecture, focusing on sustainability and exploring new construction possibilities while respecting the local context. By combining contemporary design, industrialisation of construction, and sensitivity to the environment, the project presents a home in line with current challenges.
