In the picturesque village of Tatariv in western Ukraine, Gont is the latest project from design studio Between the Walls. The country house, overlooking the Carpathian Mountains, honours local traditions and blends modern architecture with the surrounding landscape.
Gont, the wood panelling traditionally used in the Carpathian region, is also the name of the new project by Between the Walls. Surrounded by dense forests and the incredible Ukrainian landscapes, the country house combines modern design with the beauty of nature.
With a philosophy centred on ecological design, the studio responsible for the project paid special attention to the use of natural materials inside and outside the house. The property's small details reflect the adoration for nature and concern for the environment.
With mountain views, the kitchen combines functionality and cosiness. Wood, local quartzite and Ukrainian-made decorative plaster are some of the materials used in this space. To make this room warmer and cosier, the studio chose to place two woollen lamps above the dining table.
Characterised by the stunning forest landscape, the living room has a simple and unique design. The space features a modular sofa in neutral tones, vintage armchairs, a centre table by the famous Ukrainian brand GUSHKA and a carpet by Kononenko ID, adding a touch of colour to the room. The fireplace guarantees the comfort needed for colder days, without neglecting design.
The open-space kitchen and living room feature a hand-applied technique that gives the walls a rich, textured look.
Decorated using natural materials, the bedrooms offer a feeling of rest and rejuvenation. To create a peaceful and cosy retreat, Between the Walls chose to add designer ethnic patterned headboards to contrast with the wood-toned décor.
With a wall covered in tiles, the bathroom incorporates modern details that give the space some personality. Despite its small size, the window in the shower guarantees natural light all year round.
Gont is the perfect combination of modern design and natural beauty, where every detail has been designed to honour Ukrainian culture and the Carpathian Mountains.
