Set within a unique natural landscape in São Teotónio, in Odemira, surrounded by the luxuriant vegetation and an agreeable lake, Lua Nua was conceived as a “place for men in the middle of nowhere”, a space of contemplation that invites us to slow down and reconnect with ourselves.

Converted into a guesthouse with around 240 square meters, the intervention was commissioned to Lisbon-based studio DC.AD and aimed to create a clean minimalistic aesthetic, that could be elegant and subtle at the same time. To do that, the team decided to add a studio, a kitchen, a living and dining room, a communal bathroom, and four suites. In all of them, guests have access to the outside and a central piece acts as a key element of the rooms since she includes the bed headboard, two shelves, and two panels that divide the bed and bathroom area. “This is one of the most striking features in the interior design of the rooms, creating games of light, reflections, and transparency between both spaces”, the studio explained.

But it is also through the perfect connection between interior and exterior that we uncover the soul of this boutique hotel. The flooring and external microcement coatings extend until the exterior flooring, enhancing its continuity, a dark and industrial swimming pool, carefully placed to take advantage of sun exposure, increasing the contrast with the white and green structure of the property and nature.

Out of the will to “create moments with different levels of privacy, in an informal, relaxing and uninhibited atmosphere”, a hidden and passionate place is born, the perfect stop to savor the small pleasures of the Portuguese South West coast.
