Located in Hudson, one of New York's most charming and historic locations, this Italian house dating back to 1900 has been completely renovated.
In this house, which breathes new life, history and modernity, there is a constant dialogue, creating a true sense of balance. The house's atmosphere reflects authenticity and is defined by a soft colour palette, natural materials, textures and wallpapers combined with antique furniture, lamps and some objects from local shops.
The interior design was the responsibility of designer Liz Lipkin, founder of Liz Lipkin Interiors. " We all felt that the renovation should be approached with a light touch, with respect for the house’s original layout and details," recalls Liz Lipkin. Betting on a vintage atmosphere, wood, antique objects, some new pieces in natural materials and different textures predominated, adding depth and dimension to each room. Contrasting textures like the living room’s lacquered coffee table, chunky wool rug and nubby sofa, prevent a neutral palette from looking flat,” says Liz Lipkin. To reinforce a sense of tranquil retreat, mainly neutral colours were chosen, namely browns, beige, and creams, with some soft blues and a few touches of yellow.
In the owners' words, the result is a house that is "both historic and modern, minimalist yet cosy, traditional but fun and whimsical and, most importantly, highly functional."
